Purple... I like purple... I pretty much have nothing to do... Cool in some regards...like YAY I'm getting paid to do nothing. Hella boring in other ways!!!
We're moving into our cubes next week. I'm dying to see what this set up is going to look like. 5 cubes in a room the size of my bedroom... I should be careful what I wish for. Although I'm sitting in a nice office right now, with a window, I really don't have any space to do anything because the previous occupant left all his stuff meticulously laid out all over the place.
I'm going to be lucky if I can breathe in the new cube...hopefully it will afford me a LITTLE privacy and some space to personalize. Since we're going to be in such close quarters, my radio is going to be out of commission. that is going to SUCK!
Robin, the director of donor relations (the highest level person I personally support), told me to use headphones. I'm going to run that by my supervisor, and hopefully she'll be cool with that. I can't work in silence all day. I'll kill myself.
In case you were wondering...here is the chain of command of my job:
I work for (Philanthropy) Operations
The philanthropy staff (fundraisers) "contracts" the operations staff (me) to work for them.
The fundraisers I work "for" are Robin (director of donor relations) and Paul (gift officer/fundraiser).
My supervisor (Assistant director of operations) is Lisa...awesome possum woman... Any issues I have in the office I bring to her.
Those are the 3 key players. I'll be getting a new person once they hire someone.
I'm hoping that i'll be able to advance fairly quickly here. Right now my duties are mainly administrative...supplies, correspondence, mail, phones, reports, data entry.
I have the opportunity to get my hands on some more specialized stuff (which is what I should be doing now instead of screwing around on here!) like updating and maintaining patient database, preparing gifts for processing, budget maintenance...
I think the next logical step up here would be to a Project Coordinator position. They are the people who process all the gifts, run reports for the fundraisers, acknowledge all the gifts, make deposits, count the money, etc. etc. (imagine that... ME counting money!). They're pretty stressed out right now because it's year end... and they have to process all the gifts received in '04 and acknowledge them in a certain period of time for tax purposes... they all need to be deposited by the end of this week!! For some background info... we got over $2M in gifts yesterday... coming in increments from $10 - $5,000... that's a lot of gifts to process!!
Anyhow... this is the begining of my blog... love it or hate it...
