#44 - Phantom Gourmet

Ok, so I’m creating a list of restaurants I’d like to try (pushing me towards getting my 5 new restaurants recommended by Phantom Gourmet). Here are some that I have in mind, directly from the Phantom’s website:

The Artisan (a project of Greater Lowell Technical High School)

This is a hidden jewel according to Phantom Gourmet. They serve lunch Tuesday-Friday throughout the school year. I really want to check this out because I have a heart for culinary students and hands-on education is the best!

The Chicken Connection, Haverhill

Another hidden jewel that’s close to my house. Ok, so this won’t help me with eliminating fast food, but it looks great!

Dream Diner, Tyngsboro

There’s something about diners that appeals to me. They’re usually cheap and the owner usually LOVES what he/she does which, in turn, means great food. And, breakfast served all day! I think Christine would love this place!

Hodgie’s Ice Cream, Amesbury

Hodgie’s got an 86 from the Phantom and is a Great Ate. I’m not huge into ice cream, but I can appreciate the good stuff. I’ve been a die-hard Richardson’s fan for local ice cream but I’ve got to try this.

New Bridge Café, Chelsea

Can you believe that I lived 10 minutes from this place for 28 years and have NEVER been there? It’s always been on my mental list…but now it’s on a published list. Phantom calls New Bridge a Great Ate for Steak and a hidden jewel.

Truly Jorg’s, Saugus

I’ve seen Jorg on Food Network Challenge a few times, and I remember that he used to have a shop, back in the day, in Chelsea. He’s moved up in the world and is in Saugus now. I’d LOVE to get something done by him (especially being an aspiring cake artist myself). Friends, take note, I want my 40th birthday cake to come from Jorg. A Great Ate for Bakeries and a hidden jewel, Truly Jorg’s is Phantom’s favorite patisserie for artsy, tasty treats. The Swiss trained chef has cooked for presidents and movie stars but feels most at home in his Saugus kitchen, turning out European pastry for an appreciative public.

England’s Microcreamery, Haverhill

A Great Ate for ice cream, England’s MicroCreamery makes its own small batches on site. Each ice cream recipe is smooth, without any premixed chunks, chips, or swirls. The customer is given complete control to decide what kinds of candy, cookies, and nuts are hand folded in. This place does tours AND for private groups, MAKE YOUR OWN FLAVOR. Now, I’m not an ice cream freak like some other people I know, but this sounds freakin' awesome.
