This week's pick up was so much better than I had anticipated. Though, I'm seeing that some people are getting herbs that I'm not getting at the end of the day. I have to figure out how to get there earlier. Maybe a jet fast lunch run?
This is what I actually got for week 3 (I was supposed to get a pickling cucumber, but I forgot to grab it!!! Boo!)
1 bunch Amaranth (Blado) – can be used like spinach, supposedly
1 huge head of green leaf lettuce
1 bunch of spearmint
1 bunch of arugula
1 bunch of rainbow chard
2 good sized zucchini
2 bags of shell peas
1 kousa squash
I wish I hadn't swapped out my japanese turnips. I hadn't eaten last week's turnips until AFTER I went to pick up this week's share and I wasn't sure if I was going to like them so I swapped for more peas. However, that night I made curried turnips and they were FANTASTIC!
I'm in the process now of finding recipes for the amaranth and the mint. For the mint, I'm thinking stuffed grape leaves and possibly some mint simple syrup to add to lemonade or iced tea. Apparently, amaranth greens are fairly new in this area of the world so it looks like I will be going asian or middle eastern with this.
I am supposed to be making a tiramisu for my family barbeque this weekend. I'm also going to the Boston Pops July 4th Concert dress rehearsal on Saturday with about 50 people from the NerdFun Boston meetup.com group. I figure I'll be there for at least 5 hours so I'll need to bring something good to nibble on (and perhaps share). All this food prep is going to drive me nuts!!!
